Lychee trees depend heavily on water and balanced nutrition. But in early 2026, Hainan experienced one of its harshest droughts in recent years.
According to the local agricultural department, rainfall since March dropped by nearly 70% compared with normal years.

Temperatures stayed above 37°C for long periods, weakening tree growth and reducing fruit quality across many orchards.
